Liverpool handed a major blow in Moises Caicedo pursuit as player doesn’t fancy move
In what could prove to be something which could hurt Liverpool in the second half of their campaign, as their pursuit of Moises Caicedo could come to a halt as the player does not intend to move from Sussex in the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old Ecuadorian central midfielder is on the Reds’ transfer radar due to his versatility to excel in multiple roles in midfield. His ability to play in defensive midfield is something that the Reds were viewing as a long-term replacement for someone like Fabinho, whose form has been questionable in recent games.
However, Liverpool gave to turn their heads elsewhere as Caicedo admits that he is more than happy at the Amex Stadium, and wishes to end the current campaign on a high for Roberto de Zerbi’s side.
Speaking to Brighton and Hove Albion’s official website, here is what Caicedo told them about his idea to help the Seagulls finish in a European spot at the end of the season:
“We are having a great season with this coach and I am sure we are going to stay up there in the table. We are training very well, are very focused on every match and I’m sure we will take Brighton to a qualification place for the Europa League.”
Caicedo will not move this January
In all fairness, Brighton have been playing fantastic football this season, and a Europa League spot is certainly not beyond them by any means. For a team currently on 27 points, a spot in the Europa League is the target. Speaking of the Reds, we are on 28 points and the gap to the last UCL spot is still seven points.
But certainly, these are not the words a player would say if he intends on leaving the club in the upcoming transfer window. And that is the reason why the Reds will need to look elsewhere. Very recently, Fabrizio Romano also stated via Twitter that Ismael Bennacer also looks all-set to extend his deal with AC Milan and that virtually leaves not many defensive midfielders left on the Reds’ radar.
However, this narrows down the path for the Reds to get on board their primary transfer target, Jude Bellingham without having to look elsewhere. But that would mean that this season, the Reds will not have a lot of options to choose from in the January window.

As this link above suggests, we could still move for Matheus Nunes of the Wolves. Liverpool’s fans would know how good of a player he is as he completely turned the game in their favour once he came on in the FA Cup fixture against us.
