Liverpool are linked with Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha
According to GiveMeSport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are being linked with a move for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha.
The Portugal international, who arrived at Craven Cottage in the summer itself from Sporting Lisbon, has had an excellent first season in the Premier League so far.
Along with the Reds, north London giants Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in signing the player. The 27-year-old is one of the key reasons why Fulham have made a great start to this campaign, currently sitting seventh in the league table, level on points with Liverpool.
The report further reveals that the Reds had Palhinha on their radar since his Sporting days, before he signed for Fulham. So, is it another missed trick from us not signing a midfielder to help the current situation in the team? Probably so.
Liverpool have had an under-par season so far, and the core reason behind it has been the lack of investment in the squad for a swift transition from the previous cycle. Watching some of the games, it feels like this is a team that has gone over the hill and is now falling away fast.
The Reds did a swift business to bolster their forward line by signing Cody Gakpo this month. If the challenge for a top-four finish is to be kept, adding a midfielder is a necessity.
Palhinha has shown that he is good enough to handle the intensity of the Premier League. He is good on the ball, loves to work hard and is a tenacious ball-winner in the middle of the park.
Liverpool have lacked most of those traits in their midfield this season. So, even though it might be tough to convince Fulham to sell the Portuguese star six months after signing him, the attraction of playing for Jurgen Klopp and one of the best clubs in Europe is always there.
