Borussia Dortmund plan new deal for Liverpool target Youssoufa Moukoko
After multiple reports linking him with a move to Barcelona among other clubs including Liverpool, German news outlet Sport1, via Sport [h/t Liverpool Echo] report that Borussia Dortmund are now planning a new deal for their 18-year-old striker Yousssoufa Moukoko.
The German international, in 59 appearances for the Bundesliga giants across all competitions has 11 goals and eight assists. With his contract expiring this summer [via Transfermarkt] and no signs until now of a new deal, the teenager looked all but set to move to a different club.
However, as per this latest revelation, with Die Schwarbelgen wanting to offer their star striker a new deal, they could probably earn a bit of money in case the player moves anytime soon. The Dortmund academy graduate not joining Liverpool though, would certainly not be a huge blow for the Reds.
After signing Cody Gakpo earlier this month from PSV, the attacking depth at the club look pretty much sorted for the next few seasons. With Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and now Gakpo, the depth is certainly sufficient to compete at the top level.
Sufficient Depth in Attack for the Reds
In fact, if there is any department wherein the Reds need a bit of a reshuffle and a flux of incoming transfers, it should be the midfield.
The legs of the current set of midfielders are way past their prime and are nearing the end of their careers and at this stage, Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool would unquestionably enjoy having on board a few young central midfielders proven at the highest level.
The Reds see themselves linked with Moukoko’s team-mate at Dortmund and having Jude Bellingham on board at the L4 will be like paradise for most Liverpool fans. However, to sign those top-quality players, securing a UCL spot is a must and hence, the Reds need to start winning more games to finish in a top-four spot.
With so many players linked with a move to Liverpool, it is important for the Reds to properly assess their needs, and in this case, a midfielder or two is something we really need at the club, and then narrow down their list of potential transfer targets.

Moukoko just doesn’t make sense right now unless he opts to come here on a free transfer and accepts the role of a squad player. This is a deal we should really not be putting all our focus on.
