There is certainly no end to the list of midfielders linked with a move to Liverpool. OGC Nice’s French defensive midfielder Khephren Thuram. The 21-year-old’s older brother Marcus Thuram also stood linked with a move to the Reds earlier in the transfer window.
Football Transfers via Liverpool Echo say that the Reds have ‘included’ Thuram in their list of transfer targets.
The younger Thuram, in 26 appearances in all competitions this season has four assists. Versatility is a key feature of his game, as he is capable of playing all midfield roles Liverpool’s formation could put him in.
His contract at the Ligue 1 side lasts until 2025 (via Transfermarkt). The player’s ability to run and press for prolonged periods of time is a major contributor to his success in the recent past, and his main role in the side is to provide midfield solidarity and break lines, very similar to what Fabinho does at Liverpool, but is out of form this season.
At 21 years of age, he could prove to be more than an understudy to Fabinho and give the Brazilian a tough run for his spot in the Starting XI. We have never had a like-to-like replacement for Fab on the bench, and hopefully, Thuram solves the issue for the Reds.
Moreover, unlike Fab, the Frenchman is capable of playing advanced roles as well, giving the gaffer loads of options in case he decides to move to Liverpool. Gametime might not be hard to come given the age of the current lot, and the fact that Thuram is a proven player at the highest level.
In 116 appearances across all competitions for Nice, the player has six goals and seven assists to boot. Hopefully, in case he makes the move to the Reds, he can continue to rise and shine and make a strong name for himself in the English top tier as well.
Moreover, given how Jurgen Klopp tends to give youngsters a prolonged chance with the first team if they impress, Thuram could fly to Merseyside expecting to play a lot of games.
Having said that, a midfielder is an actual necessity at the club for Liverpool, and it has now come down to maintain sustainability that we need to sign a midfielder or two.
