Boost for Liverpool as 18-year-old sensation prepares for Bundesliga exit

Youssoufa Moukoko ‘set to leave’ Borussia Dortmund amid Liverpool links

Just a day after a few reports

claiming Dortmund’s plan on a new deal for Youssoufa Moukoko, , the 18-year-old Liverpool target appears set to depart from the Bundesliga giants at the end of his current contract (Transfermarkt) in the coming summer.

According to 90min via Liverpool Echo, contract negotiations between the player’s agent and the club seem to be heading down south. As things stand, the most likely of all situations imply a departure in the summer.

The teenager was also part of the German squad for the World Cup wherein his national team saw an early elimination and a shock exit in the Group Stages of the tournament. A player of much potential, he has all the makings of a future star.

After bursting onto the scene in the 2020/21 season, following the departure of Erling Haaland to Manchester City, Moukoko saw himself get more minutes with the first team and he made it count. In 14 league appearances this season, he has scored six goals and has an additional four assists to his name.

Moukoko and the Reds

Liverpool’s interest in the player could have risen due to the fact that Roberto Firmino also sees out his contract next summer. The club can view Moukoko as a long-term replacement for the Brazilian.

However, following Bobby’s resurgence this season, and the signing of Cody Gakpo in the January transfer window, the prospect of the teenager joining Liverpool anytime soon is far-fetched. Moreover, a forward is not a priority for the Reds and they need to focus on bringing in a young midfielder with a high ceiling.

The answer to our woes does not lie very far from Dortmund, in fact, in Dortmund, as Jude Bellingham continues to shine in every opportunity he is getting in recent months.

Despite the club having a strong forward line, the midfield has been depleted due to injuries and a lack of depth. This has left the team vulnerable in the middle of the pitch and has hindered their ability to control games and create chances.

Hence, it would be wise for Liverpool to prioritise signing midfielders over forwards, as there are already plenty of options to choose from in the attacking positions.
