“Enjoy the rough side”- Liverpool loanee opens up on fruitful spell away from Anfield

Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton talks about improving his game at Blackburn

20-year-old Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton recently penned down a long-term deal at the club. Currently, on loan at Blackburn, the player alongside Conor Bradley was extremely impressive in the few appearances he got with the first team last season. His debut came as a substitute in a Carabao Cup tie against Norwich City in September 2021

He made a total of nine appearances for the Merseysiders last season, including two Champions League appearances against FC Porto and AC Milan. In 28 appearances for Blackburn across all competitions this season, Morton has two assists to his name.

The Scouse defensive midfielder, a product of Liverpool’s Academy stands destined for a bright future if he keeps up the consistency on show from him until now. Morton has played all league games for Blackburn and is certainly getting all the minutes to empower his development away from Anfield.

Speaking to the club’s official website on improving any specific segments of his game on his time away from Liverpool, here is what Morton said about working on his physicality:

“I think physicality is the main one for me. I think I’ve been questioned on that in recent years because of my stature and stuff like that. But I think I’ve coped with it extremely well.”

“I needed that to go out and enjoy my footy – get smashed about and just enjoy the rough side of the game. I’ve done that and I’ve coped with it very well. Now I’m maturing as a footballer and I’m going to look to carry on progressing.”

As a young player, Morton may not yet have the physical strength and endurance to compete at the highest level. Improving his physicality will help him to better cope with the demands of Premier League football, both in terms of the intensity of the matches and the demands of training.

Morton works on his game on loan

For Morton, valuable playing time and experience at the professional level will give him the opportunity to further develop his skills and gain confidence, which will make him a more valuable asset to the Reds when he returns. This will ultimately benefit the Reds in the long term as they will have a more well-rounded and capable player to call upon when needed.

Moreover, the loan opportunity for Morton gives the Reds an opportunity to assess his progress over a period of time and decide on his future role in the team. Without the prospect of playing regularly in the first team, it can be hard to know if a young player like Morton is ready to make the step up.

More Liverpool News:

Hopefully, Morton returns as a well-rounded player post his loan, and get his opportunity with the first team where he could rise and shine in Liverpool colours. Moreover, the Reds have a past of getting back successful loanees from Blackburn, and hopefully, the Scouser joins Harvey Elliott on the same list.
