According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Borussia Dortmund’s sensational German talent Youssoufa Moukoko is set to stay at the Bundesliga club amidst links of a transfer.
Liverpool were one of the clubs linked with a move for the prodigiously talented German striker. Manchester United and Chelsea also wanted Moukoko but the teenager has chosen to stay at Dortmund.
For quite some time, it did look like Moukoko would leave Dortmund on a free transfer. However, it looks like the German club have managed to convince the teenage striker to stay on for a bit longer.
It is probably the best decision for Moukoko as well as there are not many clubs better than Dortmund for a youngster to develop. He will get regular game time as he continues terrorizing Bundesliga defences.
As a striker, Moukoko is one of those outliers who has really hit the straps at such a young age. Generally, it is a position where players get better with age and it is frightening to think how much better the German can get.
Romano has claimed that Moukoko will extend his contract until 2026. By the time that contract gets over or maybe even a year or two before, the talented striker will be ready for his big European move.
Moukoko is not the first player who will be using Dortmund as the launchpad to his career and he certainly won’t be the last. However, he is one of those rare talents who already looks too good and will only keep getting better.
Losing out on the German isn’t really a huge hit to Liverpool. They have enough and more forward options and Moukoko wouldn’t have really gotten a chance to thrive here even if he had come.
However, we must be attentive about Moukoko’s development. It remains to be seen how he develops and could be an option for us in the future.
