According to Football London writer Bobby Vincent (h/t Liverpool Echo), there is a big chance that Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount could leave the club in the summer, with Liverpool linked with his services.
Mount has been one of the regulars ever since the time Frank Lampard took charge of the club. Whilst the manager could not last much at Stamford Bridge, Mount is a regular for the Blues as well as his national team.
In 187 appearances so far for Chelsea, he has contributed to 33 goals and 37 assists, signifying the important role that he has been playing for the team.
Now with the London club going through a big transition under new owner Todd Boehly, it seems like Mount is not favoured as much as he would have liked. His current contract expires in June 2024 and with no extension yet, it presents an opportunity for Liverpool to take advantage.
Chelsea have been spent exorbitant money over the two windows since Boehly has taken charge and therefore would need to raise funds through the sale of players to adhere to the Financial Fair Play guidelines.
This could potentially be bad news for the England midfielder, who has failed to find good form this season under Graham Potter.
At the same time, he does represent one of the few players in the current squad who could generate a decent fee. With good Premier League experience under his belt and at just 24 years of age, he can be a shrewd signing for any top team in the league.
Hopefully, the rumours start picking up as we move closer to the end of the season and potentially provide Liverpool with an opportunity to make a move for the player.
