Brighton set mammoth new price tag for Liverpool transfer target Moises Caicedo

After rejecting a bid worth £60m

for the player from Chelsea, Brighton and Hove Albion have set a price tag worth £100m for Liverpool transfer target Moises Caicedo. The 21-year-old Ecuadorian is an integral part of the Seagulls’ midfield and is a key player for Roberto de Zerbi.

Both the Reds and Chelsea continue to see themselves linked with a move for the player. Given his importance to Brighton, one can see why they are holding out for a king’s ransom.

According to The Times (Subscription Required), any team wanting to sign Caicedo from Brighton in this window will have to pay a £100m. Should the Reds follow suit, it will be a new club record.

Brighton’s asking price could prove to be just too much for Liverpool to handle in the January transfer window. The Reds are currently in a difficult situation on the pitch as well and have never been generous spenders, to begin with.

Too expensive?

The Reds are also interested in Jude Bellingham. That pursuit would come with a much higher price tag. Reports suggest that Liverpool would have to pay around £131m to secure his services.

This would be a significant investment for the club and it’s likely that they would prioritize Bellingham over Caicedo as a transfer target. Especially so, since the former is a more established player and is considered a long-term investment.

There is definitely no denying that the Reds certainly need midfield reinforcements but obviously the money factor is the biggest when it comes to the January window at least. Under FSG’s frugal mindset, it is tough to see Liverpool break the bank for Caicedo in this window.
