Jamie Carragher not confident of Liverpool FC’s chances of a top-four finish

Jamie Carragher feels it will be extremely tough for Liverpool to get out of the mess they are in right now and discounts his former team from a place in the top four in the league. Naturally, that would mean that Carra thinks that England’s most successful European team will not play in the UEFA Champions League next season.

The Reds have played in all but the 2016-17 UCL since the appointment of Jurgen Klopp as the manager. It would certainly be a huge testament to the German’s stature as a football manager and the way he approaches the Reds’ current situation.

However, for one, Jamie and Gary Neville do not see the Reds finish in the UCL spots this season. Even though one can understand where their thoughts come from, it is certainly not over until it is. Nevertheless, Carra’s statement is not baseless and is a true possibility.

Speaking with his best mate Gary Neville on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football show, here is what he said on the Reds’ top-four chances and how he responded to the former Manchester United man on whether his old team will get UCL football [h/t Liverpool Echo]:

“No I don’t think Liverpool will get top four.”

“Only 10 points? How many points until you say someone can’t do something? Liverpool are not playing well enough.”

Could the Reds play in the UCL next season?

At the moment, Liverpool are not doing themselves any favours and see themselves just above Chelsea in the league standings at the ninth position. 10 points adrift from the fourth-placed Manchester United, it is extremely crucial for Klopp’s men to get back to winning ways domestically to ensure a European spot.

Moreover, playing in that competition will generate a lot of money which could be channelled towards getting on board new signings for the next season and beyond. In any case, the owners need to invest heavily in the club to ensure the sustainability of our team’s reputation as a European powerhouse.

However, with determination and a positive attitude, Liverpool can prove Carragher wrong and secure a spot in the top four. This will require strong performances from the players, as well as a clear tactical plan from the coaching staff as well.
