Logue 1 honcho in contention to replace Julian Ward at Liverpool

AS Monaco director Paul Mitchell is in contention to replace Julian Ward at Liverpool

According to Liverpool Echo, Paul Mitchell, who is currently the Sporting Director at AS Monaco, is tipped to replace Julian Ward at Liverpool.

After Michael Edwards left the director role at Anfield last summer, Ward offered his resignation to the club in November. He will leave the Reds in the coming summer. Jurgen Klopp expressed his surprise at the decision.

Mitchell was in attendance at Anfield when Liverpool beat Southampton 3-1 back in November, just a week before the start of the World Cup.

Before Monaco, the 41-year-old was part of the Red Bull Group, working with New York RB and RB Leipzig. He has worked as a head of scouting for three English clubs – Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton and MK Dons.

We all are well aware of the fact that Liverpool needs a massive overhaul of their squad in the coming summer. With them in need of midfielders and probably an extra option in defence, the club needs to be spot-on with their decision-making in the recruitment department. The role of a director is important.

If Mitchell is appointed as the next person to take charge of cracking player deals at Anfield, he will have a big job in hand in the first year. Not only the summer, Liverpool will have to crack transfer windows in the next two years to complete the transition into a team that can challenge.

More Liverpool News:

This is a transitional period at the club. Key members of the backroom staff have left, including Ward and the head of the research Ian Graham. Amidst all of that, Klopp has confirmed that he will stay at the club to oversee these changes and build another great team.
