PL rival’s spending spree could open doors for Liverpool to sign English international

Complications for Chelsea as Mason Mount faces dilemma amid Liverpool interest

One signing too many could also hurt clubs. In this case, Chelsea face a major complication. Their workaround around FFP rules could mean that their future spending could stand capped subject to their earnings from UEFA Champions League revenues. Chelsea may face a predicament where it must pay multiple large contracts without the compensations from UEFA Champions League revenue, leading to potential financial fair play difficulties. That is where Mason Mount might have some thinking to do.

The player’s salary could reduce significantly and that is not something which he would want ideally. Liverpool’s interest in the player coincides at the same time which could mean that he might be amenable to a change in scenery.

Pressure Mounting on Mount?

Mount has failed to kick on under Graham Potter and his development has stalled of late. Jurgen Klopp isn’t just in need of a midfielder but is also known to help players reach their full potential. A move to Anfield could prove to be a win-win.

The Cobham Academy graduate’s current deal at Stamford Bridge lasts until 2024 (Transfermarkt). Chelsea could sell him this summer in case the parties do not conclude on the same page when it comes to an extension.

The 24-year-old Englishman’s ability to play in different midfield positions, as well as on the flanks, would make him an asset for Liverpool. He is a player who can contribute both in attack and defence, making him a useful player for Klopp to have in his squad.

His work rate and desire to press opponents are also traits that would fit in well with Liverpool’s style of play, which is based on a high-intensity, pressing game.

Additionally, Mount’s technical ability and vision make him a creative force in the midfield, something that Liverpool have lacked since the departure of Philippe Coutinho. His passing accuracy and ability to find spaces in the opposition’s defence would be valuable assets for the Reds.

More Liverpool News:

Overall, Mason Mount could bring a new dynamic to Liverpool’s midfield and could be a valuable addition to the team. However, whether or not the Reds make a move for him remains to be seen, as speculation takes us nowhere in football.
