Liverpool could get Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell on board at the Reds
Ever since it has become public knowledge that Liverpool Sporting Director Julian Ward will depart the club at the end of the current campaign, there has been a lot of speculation over who would replace the man.
Ward himself came in for Michael Edwards who was among the best in the business, and Julian took over from him just a year prior to his decision of taking a step away from football. Ward was the centre of attention in Mohamed Salah’s contract extension and the signing of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.
As per CaughtOffside, Liverpool could get Monaco’s Paul Mitchell as their successor for Ward. The Englishman has had a very successful time at the Ligue 1 side when it comes to handling the business end of things.
The Manchester-born man has been closely associated with teams in the Premier League including Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur. Moreover, it was under Mitchell’s assistance that the Saints struck a deal for Sadio Mane, who is a Liverpool legend.
He played a significant role in signings such as Dele Alli, Son Heung-min, Toby Alderweireld and Kieran Trippier. His time at Leipzig saw the club recruit players such as Christopher Nkunku, Tyler Adams and Dani Olmo. That talks a lot about his expertise in his work field.
Moreover, at a team like Monaco, which is an absolute talent factory, working as a sporting director comes with its own challenges as multiple players are frequently in and out of the club. Monaco’s biggest product is among the world’s best players right now and Kylian Mbappe is certainly up there.
