Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp provided candid Fabinho verdict

The worrisome form of Liverpool defensive midfielder Fabinho has put a lot of minds into deep speculation on his future with the club. This rough patch he’s going through right now is probably the toughest phase of his career at Anfield so far. The 29-year-old was recently benched by 18-year-old Stefan Bajcetic against Chelsea as well.

That is a major concern for the player on a personal level. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp talked about Fabinho in his pre-match conference ahead of this weekend’s fixture against Wolverhampton. Thanks to the FA Cup replay, this would be the third time we are up against the Midlanders.

Along with Jordan Henderson, Fab has been a significant issue for Liverpool to handle this season. As regular starters, the average fan would expect more from the pair but unfortunately, they have not been among the best players for Liverpool this season.

Here is what Klopp said about Fabinho via Liverpool Echo:

“There are no arguments. or anything like that. He knows that he’s not flying. It’s now really helpful we have Stefan as we need this, the guy who wants to win challenges and protects everyone and plays football.”

“Fabinho for plenty of years has been absolutely brilliant but at moment, it’s not clicking.”

Huge Concern for the Reds

The gaffer was very direct in his assessment of the situation and absolutely did not sugarcoat things when it came to the Brazilian. Even though it is great that Klopp is highlighting how a youngster like Stefan is helping the Reds out, he was downright honest about Fabinho’s situation.

And rightly so as it seems like his mistakes have been monotonous and there is not much effort behind the scenes. However, to be fair on the former Monaco man, bar this campaign, he has been a consistent performer for the Reds ever since his arrival back in 2018.

Fabinho’s form has been below par in many aspects, including his passing accuracy, tackling efficiency, and contribution in build-up play. This has resulted in a loss of control in the midfield, making it easier for opposition teams to penetrate Liverpool’s defence.

The lack of protection from the midfield has put pressure on the defenders, leading to more goals conceded. Moreover, Fabinho’s struggles in passing accuracy and linking up with forwards have affected Liverpool’s attacking play, causing a lack of fluency in the team’s attacking efforts.

The dip in form for Fabinho is a major concern for Liverpool, as he is one of their most important players. If he doesn’t regain his form soon, it could have a serious impact on Liverpool’s chances of finishing in the top four this season and qualifying for next year’s Champions League. The team will need to work together to address this issue and get back to their winning ways.
