Liverpool linked with RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol

Following the rumours of a summer exit for Liverpool centre-back Joel Matip, the Reds apparently show interest in signing RB Leipzig’s Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol. The 21-year-old is coming off a fantastic World Cup campaign and is one of the best young players in the world right now.

According to Calciomercato (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool find themselves among the many teams that stand considered as potential suitors for the talented young defender. Other Premier League clubs showing interest in the player include Chelsea and Manchester United.

Many clubs are pursuing Gvardiol because of his standout performances at RB Leipzig and his potential to become a top-tier defender. Gvardiol is recognized for his tough tackles, aerial prowess, and superior defensive abilities, making him a desirable target for clubs seeking to bolster their defence.

The interest from Liverpool, along with other teams, highlights the growing demand for talented defenders in the game. As teams look to secure their defence and prevent goals, players like Gvardiol, who possess the ability to do so, are becoming increasingly valuable.

Although the report states that Gvardiol has already chosen to sign with Real Madrid, an agreement between RB Leipzig and the Spanish giants has not yet stood reached. Therefore, Liverpool and other clubs are still reportedly in the running for the signing of Gvardiol.

Given Liverpool’s recent struggles at the back, the interest in Gvardiol makes sense as they look to bolster their defence. Moreover, a certain section of the fans might view the Croatian as a long-term replacement for Matip, as stated earlier.

The player could certainly be a good buy for Liverpool but high demands for the player and his long-term contract at Leipzig (Transfermarkt) will obviously mean that he won’t come cheap. With Jude Bellingham also on our radar, times call for smart decision-making.
