Liverpool are interested in Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic
According to to transfer expert Steve Kay, via Get Football News Italy (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are interested in signing Lazio and Serbia midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as they midfield revamp in the summer.
Along with Liverpool, fellow Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United are also in the race for the Serbian superstar.
The 27-year-old has been with Lazio since the start of the 2015/16 season when he made a move from Belgian side Genk. He is a Lazio legend, having played 322 games in all competitions for them so far, scoring 64 goals and assisting 59 and being a star of the team year in and year out.
Milinkovic-Savic is tall, lanky and a technically strong midfield player who can operate either as a number 10 or as a number eight. He is good in a box-to-box role, impacting the game on both sides of the field.
In terms of attributes, the Serbian is an all-around package. He is excellent on the ball, can create chances, is good in close control of the ball with defenders around, is physically and aerially strong and works hard off the ball.
In 28 appearances in all competitions for Lazio this season, he has six goals and eight assists from central midfield.
Looking at his numbers and profile, it does seem like Liverpool could do with a dynamic box-to-box midfielder like Milinkovic-Savic in their squad.
As of now, his contract with Lazio expires in 2024 (Transfermarkt). So, if they do not extend his contract, he would need to be shipped out at a lower price this summer or risk losing him for free in a year.
