Liverpool’s January signing Cody Gakpo admits to “difficult” start

Cody Gakpo has acknowledged the difficulties he has faced during his start at Liverpool. Despite this, he has pledged to put in the effort and make improvements. The 23-year-old Dutch forward has made six appearances for Liverpool but has yet to score or provide an assist.

Not his fault totally as Jurgen Klopp’s current underperforming system gives nobody the room to perform to their full potential, and hopefully, things change for Gakpo and the team sooner than later.

Despite his struggles, Gakpo remains confident that he can turn things around and live up to the high expectations set for him. In a recent interview, he stated that he is well aware of the challenges that come with playing for such a big club, but he stands determined to prove his worth.

Gakpo told WALK ON, Liverpool’s eMagazine (h/t The Mirror) on his tough start to life in Red:

“It’s always different when you come into a team that was maybe first and winning every game, but it’s now in a little bit of a difficult situation,”

“So for me it is to come in and show what I can. If we were in first I have to do that and now we are in another place I have to do that also. I just try to show my best side.”

Gakpo’s situation is not uncommon for young players making the transition from a smaller club to one of Europe’s top teams. The step up in competition can be daunting, and it can take time for players to adjust to the higher level of intensity and pressure.

The Eredivisie and the Premier League are certainly not on the same level and naturally, the player will take time to adjust to the nitty gritty of the Premiership. Moreover, with a transitioning team around him, there is only so much Gakpo can do.

Liverpool’s current form has been somewhat underwhelming, and the team is in dire need of some extra firepower in the attacking third. With the right opportunities, Gakpo has the potential to make a real impact and provide the goals and assists that the team so desperately needs.

It’s crucial to keep in mind that Gakpo is still a young player with ample time to grow and reach his full potential. The Anfield faithful should show him the necessary patience and support as he strives to reach his full potential.
