Mason Mount facing uncertain Chelsea future amid growing Liverpool links

Chelsea’s 24-year-old English midfielder Mason Mount could soon depart the Blues over stalled contract talks. Moreover, the Cobham Academy Graduate also stands linked with Liverpool which makes the potential saga all the more interesting.

Evening Standard recently reported on Liverpool’s interest in Mount as the Reds look to revamp their midfield and infuse a sense of youth and energy into the squad. Contract talks between Mason Mount and Chelsea have stalled, putting the England man’s future at the club in doubt and giving confidence to Liverpool as they eye a move for him.

The Reds already have Jude Bellingham among their transfer targets but only one player is certainly not enough to change the fortunes of Liverpool. Besides Mason, a few of our other targets include Matheus Nunes, Ruben Neves and Moises Caicedo.

Mount to the Reds?

The Reds have been relying on the same core group of players for several years now, and the physical demands of playing in the Premier League and competing on multiple fronts have started to take a toll. This has made it obviously clear that Liverpool need to bring in some fresh faces to provide competition and depth in midfield.

Mount’s energy, creativity and work rate would bring something new to Liverpool’s midfield and could help alleviate the pressure on the ageing legs of players like Jordan Henderson and even Fabinho for that matter, who has been far from his best this season.

Even though the Chelsea midfielder has not been in the best of forms this season, Mount certainly has age on his side and could prove to be a good addition to the Reds given his prior Premier League experience as well.

In conclusion, Liverpool’s need for new midfielders is clear, and the poor form and dip in performance has only added to the urgency of the situation.
