Kaoru Mitoma issues Liverpool verdict and talks about Trent Alexander-Arnold

Very often, we come across a lot of claims talking about Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and him being a huge vulnerability from a defensive standpoint. The player has worked extremely hard on his defending skills, and it has been on show this season.

Until last season, Trent’s defensive woes were extremely visible but this season, the player seems to have worked on his skills and his physicality as well. However, in our games against Brighton, Kaoru Mitoma got the better of Trent on a couple of occasions and made a few pundits and trolls online question the 24-year-old’s defending abilities again.

However, Mitoma, in a recent interview spoke about Trent, and praised his defending which comes as a major shock, but speaks of the Liverpool Academy Graduate as he would hope to continue working on the defensive aspect of his game.

Here is what Mitoma said on Trent’s defending via liverpool.com:

“When it comes to foreign players, I got past Trent Alexander-Arnold once but soon after that when I was blocked by him, his arms were strong. People tend to think that his defending seems weak but he is totally strong, from what I’ve felt in person.”

Is Trent’s defending bad?

Alexander-Arnold is a unique player, who has a rare combination of attacking prowess and defensive solidity. He is known for his attacking ability, with his delivery from dead-ball situations, particularly from corners, often resulting in goals for our team.

However, this attacking prowess has led to a perception that he is a weak link defensively, with some suggesting that his defensive abilities are not up to the standard required for a top-level defender. His interceptions and clearances often go unnoticed. What sets him apart from other defenders is his ability to get forward and create chances for his team, which often stands overlooked.

It’s also important to note that Alexander-Arnold is playing in a system that is geared towards attacking football. Liverpool’s high-pressing style means that their full-backs often find themselves high up the pitch, and this can sometimes leave them exposed defensively.

This is not a failing on the part of Alexander-Arnold, but rather a reflection of the team’s overall style of play. However, that doesn’t mean that Trent is the best defensive midfielder, but obviously, he could work on that aspect of his game to make it better.
