Liverpool are looking at Antonio Silva and Josko Gvardiol in a bid to bolster the defensive options
According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool would be looking to add new faces to its defensive ranks with SL Benfica’s Antonio Silva and RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol deemed as two potential targets.
Injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate have laid bare the lack of quality depth in our defence with Joe Gomez not up to the mark while Joel Matip, 31, is entering the last eighteen months of his contract.
Therefore, it is necessary that alongside the rejuvenation of the midfield, stress should also be given towards reinforcements in defence.
While Konate has established himself as a top-tier centre-back, we still do need a reliable partner for the Frenchman who could be integrated into the squad as an understudy for Van Dijk.
The Netherlands captain ever since moving from Southampton has been thoroughly impressive and single-handedly lifted a frailing defence to one of the best in Europe.
However, Van Dijk, who will be turning 32 this year, would not be around forever and hence planning for his successor should start right now.
According to FootballTransfers (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool could also look to raid PSV Eindhoven once again for centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite while Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio is also a potential target.
Liverpool scouts have prepared a list of the future stars who have established themselves as first-team members at a young age and seeing rapid growth in their development.
This would fall in line with the principles laid out at the club of acquiring and nurturing young talent and there is no better manager to do that than Jurgen Klopp.
