Naby Keita set to leave Liverpool on a free transfer next summer
Guinea international Naby Keita is set to become a free agent next summer and leave Liverpool for nothing in the upcoming transfer window, according to Neil Jones from GOAL (h/t Liverpool Echo).
The midfielder is currently the Reds’ fourth biggest signing. He signed for the Anfield side from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2018 for £52.75 million, a club record for a player at that time.
However, it looks like the 28-year-old’s time in Merseyside is set to conclude at the end of the campaign. There is no sign of the club and the player coming to an agreement over a new contract.
Keita has not lived up to the expectations since his transfer. The Guinea international has struggled to cement his place in Jurgen Klopp’s starting lineup season after season.
Injuries have not been kind to the midfielder either. He has missed 85 games over the years at Liverpool. However, the 28-year-old finally seemed to have found his feet in the previous campaign.
The Anfield side made it to three finals and fought for the top spot until the final day in the Premier League. Keita was pivotal as we lifted the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. Although, Real Madrid once again proved too much to handle for us in the Champions League final.
Unfortunately, the Guinean’s displays, like most of the team, have deteriorated this season. The midfielder also missed most of the first half of the campaign due to fitness issues.
However, the former Leipzig star has consistently played a part in Liverpool’s team since the 2022 World Cup. Although, the Reds have not seen a massive turnaround in their fortunes.
