Jordan Henderson talks about Liverpool making the Premier League top four
Speaking in an interview as quoted by Metro, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has acknowledged the importance of the club’s players in securing a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
With the Reds nine points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United, Henderson believes that it is up to the players to step up and make the necessary improvements to get back into the top four.
Liverpool’s recent 2-0 win over local rivals Everton has given the team renewed optimism, but Henderson knows that they cannot afford to rest on their laurels. With a crucial fixture against Newcastle United coming up, the Reds have a chance to reduce the deficit and put themselves back in the hunt for a top-four finish.
Despite a difficult start to the season, the club’s players have shown in the past that they are capable of rising to the occasion and delivering when it matters most. However, they find themselves in quite an unprecedented situation right now.
This resilience and never-say-die attitude has been a key factor in Liverpool’s recent success, including their Champions League triumph in 2019 and their Premier League title win in 2020. However, this season, it has gone missing.
Here is what Henderson had to say about the club’s chances of finishing in the top four and he believes it’s still on them.
“Only we can make that happen. We get a good feeling from this win, definitely, but the next game is a big test at Newcastle. It’s a really tough place to go but if we can perform like we did against Everton then you never know”
The win against arch-rivals Everton will have given Liverpool a huge boost in what has been a poor season so far. This positive momentum will be crucial as the Reds look to build on their recent success and climb the Premier League table.
However, Henderson is also aware that the road ahead will not be easy. With tough fixtures against the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea still to come, Liverpool will need to be at their best if they are to secure a top-four finish this season.
