“Carlo thinks the tie is over”- Jurgen Klopp disagrees with Ancelotti’s assessment of Liverpool vs Real Madrid tie

Jurgen Klopp disagrees with Carlo Ancelotti’s assessment of Liverpool vs Real Madrid tie

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes that Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti thinks the ‘tie is over’ after Los Blancos‘ 5-2 win at Anfield.

The Reds scored twice within the first 14 minutes of the game before Vinicius Junior’s quickfire brace drew the visitors level before half-time. Three Real Madrid goals followed in the second half as Liverpool fans watched in horror.

Madrid are 14-time winners of the Champions League. They won the competition last year and are one of the best teams in the world historically as well as right now.

For many, the tie is done and dusted. Ancelotti has remained modest after his team’s huge win on Merseyside and said after the game (h/t ESPN):

“Liverpool is a great team which made us suffer in the first half so I’d say that, unfortunately, this tie isn’t finished. No way.”

Klopp, however, thinks that Ancelotti is already confident that the tie is done and dusted. In his post-match interview, the former Borussia Dortmund manager claimed:

“I think Carlo thinks the tie is over and I think it as well in the moment. But the closer you get to the game, the bigger our chances become.”

Ancelotti was in the dugout for AC Milan when we overturned a 3-0 deficit in the 2005 UEFA Champions League final. He would have also taken note of when we beat Barcelona in heroic fashion at Anfield in the 2018-19 Champions League season.

However, it doesn’t look as good for us this time around. The return leg is in Madrid and we are genuinely very, very poor in midfield. It is hard to imagine we keep a clean sheet there.

More Liverpool News:

Scoring at least thrice there won’t be easy as well. An early goal can make things exciting, of course, but this is perhaps the closest we have ever come to a certain elimination in a two-legged tie after the first leg.
