According to the GOAL’s Neil Jones via Liverpool Echo, the Reds are keen on bringing in three midfielders to the squad next summer which includes obvious target Jude Bellingham apart from Premier League midfield duo Mason Mount and Matheus Nunes. This is according to Neil Jones, via GOAL (h/t Liverpool Echo), who wrote:
“The Reds are keen on a number of players, including Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, Chelsea’s Mason Mount and Matheus Nunes of Wolves.”
Bellingham and Nunes have been ever present on the Reds’ transfer radar whereas lapses in Mount’s contract extension with Chelsea saw Liverpool come in for the 24-year-old. Three of the Reds’ own midfielders including James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita will in all likelihood end their career with the Reds in the summer and there is a necessity for new players at the club.
Moreover, the form of other midfielders like Fabinho and Jordan Henderson isn’t too exciting either. From a sustainability perspective, if the Reds do not sign a new set of midfielders in the summer, the going can certainly get absolutely tough.
Bellingham has also shown a willingness to get forward and contribute to the attack, something Liverpool desperately need given their current injury and squad depth crisis. With his potential and talent, Bellingham could be a perfect fit for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Not much different for Mount as well, who is also a very versatile player with high work rates. Liverpool could certainly use a player of Mount’s calibre, someone who can play in multiple positions in midfield and provide the team with a much-needed creative spark.
Nunes is the third midfielder reportedly on Liverpool’s radar. The Wolves player has been a standout performer for his team this season, impressing with his ability to play both as a defensive midfielder and an attacking midfielder. That makes him a well-rounded midfield option for the Reds.
In addition to these three players, Liverpool may also look to sign other midfielders this summer to address their issues in the middle of the park. The Reds have built their success in recent years on a strong midfield, and they will need to invest wisely if they want to maintain their position at the top of the footballing world.
It is clear that Liverpool needs to overhaul their midfield to address their current problems and to ensure that they remain competitive in the future. Klopp and his team must identify the right players who can provide the team with the necessary creativity, energy, and tactical versatility required to succeed at the highest level.
With injuries and inconsistent performances plaguing their midfield this season, the Reds know they need to make changes if they want to compete for major honours in the future. These three talented young players could certainly be just what Liverpool needs to get back to their best.
