Liverpool coach backs Reds’ ace to come back stronger following Real Madrid gaffe

Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg backs Alisson Becker to come back stronger

Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg, while speaking to Liverpool Echo, has backed Alisson Becker

to forget about the mistake against Real Madrid and show every one of his amazing qualities.

Liverpool and Madrid met again after last year’s UEFA Champions League final and it provided the perfect opportunity for Jurgen Klopp and co. to get revenge on the final loss.

The game started in blistering fashion and we were two goals in the first quarter before Vinicius jr. got one back for the visitors with a lovely finish.

The game was still in our hands however just before half-time, Madrid equalised again thanks to a dreadful mistake from Alisson while trying to clear his lines.

It got Madrid back in the game and everyone is aware of the aftermath which resulted in a 5-2 humiliation for the hosts. It was one of those off-nights for the Brazilian keeper but Liverpool coach Achterberg believes that mistakes are part of the game and the keeper will come with a strong performance.

“As a goalkeeper, it can always happen.

It was a high-intensity game with high-quality players, who were closing the keepers down quickly. You must make split-second decisions in such situations. You don’t want mistakes to happen, but unfortunately that’s part of the game.

Ali is pretty good, consistent and one of the standout players in the team at present. It’s a shame it happened in this game but we must focus on the next game. Ali will deal with it like a quality keeper and be ready for the Saturday.”

Achterberg is correct in his assessment that mistakes are part of the game and can happen to the very best. The Liverpool goalkeeper is one of the best in the world at what he does and should shake it off soon.

It does not need reminding that our disappointing season would have been worse had it not been for Alisson and his magnificent saves at crucial times.

More Liverpool News:

He would surely come back from the setback and the next league game against Crystal Palace provides him with a perfect opportunity to get the confidence back.

A good result against Crystal Palace brings us right back in contention for a top-four finish with the team only seven points off the top four and having two games in hand.
