James Milner opens up on Liverpool’s morale following Crystal Palace draw

Liverpool vice-captain James Milner talks about the confidence levels after Crystal Palace draw

After a frustrating 90 minutes in South London at Selhurst Park, Liverpool came back to Merseyside with just a point as the Reds drew goalless to Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace side. After two back-to-back wins in the league, one would have expected the Reds to continue their form, but unfortunately, it was too much to ask for.

James Milner started in midfield for the Reds alongside Naby Keita and skipper Jordan Henderson in a midfield trio nobody would have expected to start prior to the game. Even though both teams were very close to scoring in either half, with Mo Salah even hitting the crossbar, the goal did not come by.

It was an embittering kind of a watch as well, given the midfield did not offer much creativity and Keita was guilty of giving the ball away multiple times apart from fouling more than usual on the day. Milly spoke about the game later on on the club’s official website.

Here is what Milly had to say to the club’s official website

when prompted on the levels of confidence within the squad:

“I think obviously when things aren’t going your way there’s obviously a loss of confidence. When things are going well in a general period and you have a game where you hit the post and it doesn’t go in or you misplace a pass, it doesn’t affect you as much, you shake it off and go again.”

Obviously at this moment in time with the confidence a bit lower and a few bad experiences, it probably gets us down a bit more than it should do at this moment in time – and that’s something we need to try to fight through.”

The loss to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League was a major setback for Liverpool, who had come into the game on the back of two consecutive league wins. The Reds stood completely outplayed by the Spanish giants and the result was a demoralizing blow for the team.

Low levels of confidence at Liverpool

However, the defeat to Real was not the only disappointment for Liverpool this season. They have also struggled in the Premier League, currently sitting in seventh place in the table. Even though the season is far from over, the Reds need to put in better performances to help secure their chances of a top-four finish.

The upcoming game against the Wolves at home is a crucial one for Liverpool. A win would go a long way towards boosting the team’s confidence and solidifying their chances of finishing in the top four. However, a loss could be a major setback for the team and could further dent their already fragile confidence.

In conclusion, Liverpool’s recent performances have been disappointing and the levels of confidence in the squad are low. The team needs to start putting in better performances if they hope to secure a top-four finish.

With key players out due to injury, Liverpool will need to rely on their depth and the collective effort of the team to turn their season around. The game against Wolves followed by a derby game against Manchester United will be a major test for the team and will give an indication of whether they have what it takes to compete at the highest level (at least in this season).
