Jurgen Klopp backs Liverpool injury returnee to make a telling difference in the coming months

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp offers a time scale for the return of Luis Diaz

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has offered a specific time scale for the return of injured Luis Diaz, along with how many games the winger can impact from now till May (Liverpool Echo).

Diaz was back running on grass before last week, months after getting his knee surgery done. Klopp confirmed that the Colombian is now working on individual ball work and may return to team training in the week after next.

The former Porto winger has been out of the team since early October when he went off injured

against Arsenal. He returned to the mid-season training camp in December, but the injury got worse and surgery was the solution.

Here’s what Klopp regarding the return of Diaz (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“I’m positive about him that there’s a good chance to have a real impact in 10, 11, 12 games maybe. We will see how long it exactly takes.

“It’s estimated that maybe next week he will be warming up with the team and then maybe a week later being in team training. That would be cool. “

With the international break coming up in the third and fourth week of March, along with the postponement of the Fulham game prior to that, one can imagine that Diaz could be in contention when we return to club football action in early April.

At that time, Liverpool will have 12 league games left. So, there will be enough time for the 26-year-old to make an impact on where we finish at the table.

It is not hard to say that the Reds have missed Diaz’s pace, directness and dribbling skills in the last few months. He is someone who can both play as a winger, remain comfortable and also add goals to the team by making those out-to-in runs.

Whenever he is back, it would be a warm welcome. For now, let’s hope his work on the training pitch goes without many setbacks. Once that happens, we may see him back very soon.
