Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk, while speaking to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg (h/t Fabrizio Romano via Twitter) has rubbished any rumours linking head coach Jurgen Klopp with an exit from Liverpool.
He said:
“Of course [I am looking forward to working with Klopp next season], Klopp is the boss and that doesn’t change. I‘m very happy with him, he’s very happy at Liverpool.”
Klopp joined Liverpool from Borussia Dortmund in 2016 and is currently in their seventh year at Anfield. While his predicting years have seen him bring the much-awaited success to the club, this season has been nothing short of a disappointment.
Seventh in the league, out of the domestic tournaments while the tie against Real Madrid is way out of reach, it seems the room for any silverware this season has evaporated. The only good hope that remains is of a top-four finish and UEFA Champions League qualification which would have a big impact on our summer transfers.
While some have speculated whether Klopp and Liverpool would be looking to part ways after a disastrous season, Van Dijk believes there is no room for any discussion of such a manner and the German is here to stay.
The rumours surrounding Klopp’s exit were also taken with a pinch of salt as no man in his right mind would want to sack the manager who brought the good times back to the club on the back of one bad season.
Not to forget about the innumerous injuries to key players, loss of form and also fatigue of competing for a quadruple the previous season as some of the key factors behind such results. Klopp is the right man to bring us out of this loop and take us back to the heights achieved in the previous years of competing for the top trophies.
One good summer transfer window and the blip could possibly be a thing of the past. For now, our sole concentration should be on securing Champions League qualification as it could potentially have an impact on how things would be for us in the coming season.
It starts with the mid-week fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers followed by the derby game against Manchester United.
Both of the mentioned opposition have won their home games against us and it is time that we do the same to bring the much-needed confidence back in the team.
