Injury boost for Jurgen Klopp as two Liverpool stars are in contention to return vs Wolves

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp provided a positive injury update on two players

Speaking to the media ahead of the next game (h/t Evening Standard), Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp confirms that Ibrahima Konate and Darwin Nunez trained normally and could be available to face Wolverhampton Wanderers.

After injuring his shoulder against Newcastle United, Nunez played the Real Madrid game with a painkiller. The Uruguayan missed the Crystal Palace game due to pain in that area though. It seems like that has gone now and he would be in the squad for the game on Wednesday night.

Konate, on the other hand, has been out for a while due to a muscle injury. Before the Palace game, Klopp said that the Frenchman is back in training but it was only two sessions. With more training under his belt, the defender should start against Wolves.

Here’s what the Liverpool boss said regarding the availability of these two and the situations of others who are currently out long-term (h/t Evening Standard):

“Ibou’s had no issues since he was injured, we just wanted to give him more training time before we include him again. It should be fine now.

“We have to see [with Nunez], it’s the shoulder. It looked absolutely okay yesterday but I don’t know and somebody will tell me how he’s reacted since.

“I watched half an hour of Luis’ rehab session out on the pitch – shooting, moving looks all really good. But it was not a team training session so that’s probably not decisive information.”

To add to that, Klopp also updated us that Thiago Alcantara is still in rehab after picking up the hip injury

before the Merseyside derby two weeks ago. Joe Gomez remains unavailable following his muscle injury in the debacle of a performance against Real Madrid.

Given how important Konate and Nunez are to this team, it is good to see them back fit and available. The former has had a lot of injury concerns this season though, so it would be nice if he stays clear of that for the remainder of this season.

Nunez’s pace and directness were missed against Palace. The 23-year-old’s availability would be useful against a deep-defending Wolves side.

If we look at the scenario in the table, the next three league games are in the must-win category for Liverpool. Two of those three games are at home, while the away trip is down to Bournemouth.

More Liverpool News:

If they get nine points before visiting Madrid to accomplish an impossible task, the season would get a much-needed push. Getting players back fit is the first step to positivity.
