Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand gives Liverpool target Jude Bellingham transfer advice
Recently, there has been a lot of talk about where 19-year-old Jude Bellingham should go next in his football career. Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has urged him to join his old team, but one would believe that Liverpool is the perfect place for him to grow and develop even more.
The player has been linked with a number of clubs including the Reds, Real Madrid, Man United and Manchester City as well. However, he would probably not get the opportunities Liverpool could provide him with if he wishes to join any other club.
Firstly, there is a clear need for young midfielders at Liverpool. The current midfield options are ageing, with Jordan Henderson and James Milner both in their 30s. Bellingham, on the other hand, is young, and energetic and has shown immense potential in his performances for Borussia Dortmund.
Here is what Ferdinand told BBC Radio 5 Live via Liverpool Echo on Bellingham’s situation and why he thinks the 19-year-old should switch to United:
“The way the team looks, the way the squad is shaping up, the way the managers are navigating their teams’ fortunes and who I see being more successful in the upcoming future – I really would be sitting on the side of United.”
Jude should move to Merseyside
Liverpool is in a transitioning state at the moment. After winning the Premier League and Champions League in recent seasons, the team has obviously struggled with injuries and inconsistency this year. Bellingham could be at the core of the change at the club, bringing in a fresh injection of youth and talent.
Liverpool’s style of play would suit Bellingham. Those who watch us would know that we play a high-pressing, possession-based game, which is similar to the style of football that he plays at Dortmund. Bellingham’s energy and work rate would certainly be an asset in this system, and he would have the opportunity to learn from and play alongside some of the best midfielders in the world, including Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho.
In addition, Liverpool have a history of developing young players and giving them a platform to succeed. Trent Alexander-Arnold is just an example of a player who has come through the Liverpool academy and gone on to become a regular in the first team.
Similarly, Bellingham could also become an Anfield fan favourite in the years to come. It is at times easy to forget that the player is only 19 because of his world-class performances at the biggest of stages.

While Ferdinand’s opinion carries weight due to his impressive playing career, his affiliation with Manchester United may have been biased his judgement. In contrast, Liverpool’s recent success and attractive style of play make them an appealing option for young players like Bellingham.
