Benfica duo Antonio Silva and Florentino Luis subject to scouting from Liverpool
Liverpool’s scouting network is constantly on the lookout for young and talented players who can add quality and depth to the squad. In the search for players who could improve the squad, the Reds have sent scouts to watch Benfica duo Antonio Silva and Florentino Luis in action during a recent league fixture against Famalicao.
90min via Liverpool Echo talk about how the Reds and even Tottenham Hotspur have their scouts sent over to Portugal to keep an eye on the duo. Benfica are having a superb season and currently sit eight points clear at the top of the Portuguese league table.
The Eagles’ recent performances have been impressive, with an emphatic victory over Club Brugge in the Champions League further cementing their credentials as a top European side. However, Benfica’s success has not gone unnoticed, and the club could stand set to lose some of its talented young players in the summer transfer window.
Silva is a highly-rated prospect who obviously had links with the Reds previously as well. The young centre-back possesses excellent defensive attributes, including strong aerial ability, good positioning, and an ability to read the game well. He is also comfortable with the ball at his feet and can start attacks from the back.
Another Benfica player or two on the Reds’ books?
Florentino, on the other hand, is a highly-rated defensive midfielder, tipped for a bright future in the game. The 23-year-old possesses excellent physical attributes, including strength, power, and an impressive work rate. He is also comfortable with the ball at his feet and possesses good passing ability, making him an ideal candidate for Liverpool’s midfield.
Both players could almost immediately make a strong case for themselves in the Liverpool XI. The Reds need freshening up in the midfield and Florentino could come in there and as far as Silva is concerned, he is a top defender and amid the calls for a defensive rebuild as well, the Portuguese international could find himself playing for the Reds sooner than expected.
It is no surprise that Liverpool are interested in the duo, as both Silva and Florentino Luis possess the qualities that the Reds are looking for in their players. Liverpool’s defensive options could get trimmed given Joel Matip’s uncertain future at the club.
Moreover, midfield options could also stand reduced given how James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all running out of contract at the club in June later this year. That is where Florentino could come in.
