Injury News: 26-year-old Liverpool star could return to action this weekend

There is a possibility that Liverpool winger Luis Diaz could return to action this weekend

According to Colombian journalist Diego Ruendia (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool winger Luis Diaz could make a shock return to the first-team squad as early as this weekend against Bournemouth.

The former Porto star has been missing since picking up a knee injury

back in October. He returned to the mid-season training in December but suffered another setback. He got the surgery done and has been out running and working with the ball for the last two weeks.

The report states that not only the 26-year-old could play some part against Bournemouth, but there would also be some minutes in store for him in the second leg of the Real Madrid tie at Bernabeu next Wednesday.

Let’s take this update with a pinch of salt because we generally do not see Jurgen Klopp rushing back players from a long-term injury. He would be extra careful with Diaz because of the setback in December.

Moreover, Liverpool are in a good position with regard to the form of the attackers. Darwin Nunez is doing extremely well on the left wing, while Diogo Jota is an option for that position as well.

So, there is no need for the coaching staff to rush the return of Diaz to the side. With the Fulham game postponed due to the London side’s involvement in the FA Cup, the Reds will have no game from next Wednesday till April 2nd (the international break starts on the 20th of March).

In that break, the Colombian international can work his way back, maybe play a U21 game and train rigorously to gain match fitness. Giving him time would also make sure that he does not feel uncomfortable whenever the manager brings him on for the game.
