Liverpool linked with a summer move for 20-year-old Salzburg sensation

Liverpool are linked with RB Salzburg midfielder Luka Sucic

According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are linked with young Croatian midfielder Luka Sucic, who currently plays for Austrian side RB Salzburg.

Sucic has been a regular feature for Salzburg this season, as they fly away in the league. He played the European games too and impressed quite a few people.

The 20-year-old, who is termed as the ‘new Luka Modric’ is valued at around £18m. Newcastle United are also monitoring his situation, but Liverpool appear to be the front-runners.

Sucic is an attacking midfielder who can operate as a central midfielder if required. He joined Salzburg in the summer of 2020, from fellow Austrian side FC Liefering.

The Croatian international, with four senior caps, has assisted four goals in 25 appearances in all competitions for the Austrian Bundesliga leaders.

So, in a way, Sucic is a playmaker who likes to ply his trade in between the lines and hurt the opposition’s defences by creating chances for the forward line.

Liverpool are linked with a similar player in the form of Chelsea star Mason Mount. Now, the Englishman would cost more than the £18m quoted for Sucic, but he has better experience in the Premier League and is probably a better all-around player than the young Croatian.

Hence, if the Reds are looking to sign a playmaker-type midfielder, it would be better if they fork a few out and get Mount. Make no mistake, Sucic is a great player, but the Chelsea man may suit the Jurgen Klopp system a bit better.
