Boost for Liverpool as 24-year-old Bundesliga transfer target could be available next summer

Liverpool transfer target Anton Stach not ‘unsellable’

Liverpool Football Club are interested in signing 24-year-old Anton Stach from Mainz, according to recent reports from Liverpool Echo. Sky Deutschland report that Stach could surely be open to a change of scenery next season amid his Liverpool links.

The towering 6ft 4″ defensive midfielder has caught the attention of the Reds, along with fellow Premier League clubs Tottenham and Newcastle. Besides, the German international is a versatile player who can play multiple midfield positions.

Stach has been in impressive form for Mainz this season, and his performances have not gone unnoticed by Liverpool’s scouts. The Reds are in the market for a new midfielder to add to their squad, and Stach’s potential arrival could be a boost for Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Liverpool has obviously had a difficult season in the Premier League, and there have been growing concerns over the midfield’s consistency and the ageing squad. Stach’s arrival could address both issues, as he has the potential to improve the midfield’s defensive capabilities and bring a sense of youthful energy to the team.

Stach to the Reds?

According to Mainz’s sporting director, Christian Heidel, Stach is not “unsellable” (h/t Sky Germany), and this news could certainly be a positive sign for Liverpool. The Reds have reportedly been tracking Stach’s progress for some time, and they may be ready to make a move for the player in the upcoming transfer window.

Stach’s speciality lies in his box-to-box abilities. In 25 appearances this season, he has a goal and three assists. Even though that is not the right scale to measure how good a defensive midfielder is, stats are stats.

As per FBref, Stach has two interceptions per 90 and has won 98% of his headers as well. 3.28 shot-creating chances for a primarily defensive midfielder is an extremely good number and in case he makes a move to the Reds, it will all be about how well he bodes to the requirements of the team.

In the event that he moves to the Reds, he could provide Fabinho with much-needed competition for his place in the starting lineup and could also chip in to play further advanced midfield roles as well.

If Stach were to sign for Liverpool, he would be joining a team that certainly has a strong track record of developing young players and helping them reach their full potential. The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Sadio Mane are obviously just a few examples to name a few.
