Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, while speaking on the club’s official website admits his worry and hopes that none of his players come back injured from the international break, with a gruelling tie against Liverpool when the domestic season resumes.
City are competing on three fronts with the team currently in contention for the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League making it a very important month for our rivals.
Pep’s side will face Liverpool in their opening game of the month and hopes that his players do not come back injured from the international break ahead of a mammoth encounter against Liverpool.
“I pray that no-one comes back with an injury. I said to the players – come back fit. You know exactly what you need.
You work here every day with our incredible staff and backroom staff. What you need to be fit, you need to do it in the national team and hopefully the managers take care of the players as much as possible.
The week now is rest, go with the national team, come back and three days to prepare for Liverpool and we will see what happens next.”
As gruelling as the fixtures, the same could not be applied to Liverpool with only the league left for the team to compete in. However, it could actually work to our advantage in our bid for a top-four finish come the end of May.
Currently sixth in the league, the ideal gap between fixtures would allow the managers and players to recover properly and work on different ideas, something not possible when a team has a game every third day.
At the same time, April could be a defining moment for us as well and could potentially give a fair idea of how the season will end. In the next six games, Liverpool will face the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea in a span of mere nine days.
Good results in these three games and it could be a fun ride to the end. However, any lapse of concentration and bad results could derail our season further. Either way, it is time we give it our all for the remaining games this season.
