“No brainer”- Former Scottish international urges Liverpool to retain veteran star’s services in the summer

Alan Hutton urges Liverpool to keep hold of James Milner

If there is one word to describe James Milner, it would most likely be commitment. At 37 years old, Milly at times shows more urge than some of the younger players at Liverpool. That is in no way throwing shade but describing what a wonderful team-player Milner is.

The epitome of professionalism at that age, there is a lot that young players can learn from the former Leeds United man, who is fourth on the list of all-time appearances in the Premier League.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton spoke about how important it is for a dressing room to have characters like Milner and urged the club to keep hold of him for as long as possible.

When asked if Milner is a player the Reds need to hold on to, Hutton had this to say:

 “100 per cent.”

“It is an absolute no-brainer.”

“He is a guy that looks after himself. He is solely concentrated on his football and you need people like that in and around the camp.”

“That is what brings the young players on because you can learn from these guys. You want to keep some of that experience.”

“The new people coming in need to lean on them and learn what it is all about. You can see the relationship he has got with Klopp is a close one so I would definitely keep him.”

Milly for the Reds

Milner’s leadership qualities are of immense importance to the team. He is a role model for the younger players and has a great work ethic, both on and off the pitch.
