“Do not know why”- Rival ace shocked at Liverpool star’s international omission

Ederson shocked that Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson was not selected for the Brazil squad

Manchester City’s Ederson expressed his shock at the non-inclusion of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker from the Brazil squad.

Brazil are scheduled to play only one game in the March international break, against the World Cup overachievers Morocco in a friendly.

The five-time world champions are without a manager at the moment, with Ramon Menezes serving as an interim boss.

Menezes did not include

Alisson for the squad to feature against Morocco despite the Liverpool man’s recent form being top-class. Ederson was shocked to know that. Here’s what he said (h/t Metro
):

“The first moment I saw the list I was surprised, but it’s the coach’s decision. They are choices, I thought he would be on the list, but he was not.

“I do not know why, if it is a matter of opportunities for younger players. But we have to work, give our best, every day there is a good new player who can take that responsibility too.”

It’s not as if the interim manager rotated the squad that featured in the World Cup and decided to pick the ones that don’t play regularly for the national team.

Keeping that and Alisson’s form in mind (probably the best keeper in the world this season), it was strange to see him not included in a two-week international break where they will play only one game.

Menezes cannot cite workload management as the reason behind this decision, right? It is because Alisson is a goalkeeper. A player in that position doesn’t need his minutes managed throughout the course of a season.

Whatever the reason, things cannot change now. The Liverpool star gets a few days off as a result, which he should be used to recharge for the last part of this gruelling campaign for the Reds.

Missing this one friendly may not affect the 30-year-old’s position in the Brazilian side though. He should remain their number-one goalkeeper going forward.

Let’s hope that he won’t be too perturbed after getting the snub and recollect his focus back to doing well for Liverpool in April and May.
