Liverpool lead Arsenal and Tottenham in Mason Mount transfer race
Liverpool is reportedly leading the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, ahead of Premier League rivals Arsenal and Tottenham (football.london). The 24-year-old has been in impressive form for Chelsea this season, and his performances have not gone unnoticed by top clubs in the league.
Mount has been a key player for Chelsea this season, playing a crucial role in their Champions League winning campaign. He has scored three goals and provided six assists in 32 appearances in all competitions so far this season. His ability to play in different positions in midfield and his versatility on the pitch have made him a valuable asset for Chelsea.
Liverpool are keen on signing Mount as they look to strengthen their midfield options ahead of next season. The Reds have obviously stood hit by a string of injuries this season, which has exposed their lack of depth in midfield.
Mount’s technical ability, vision, and passing range would undoubtedly add quality to Liverpool’s midfield, and he would be a great addition to the team. Furthermore, his top-class work rate would perfectly suit Jurgen Klopp’s style of play.
Mount to the Reds?
However, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea would be willing to let Mount go, especially to a Premier League rival. The Blues have been reluctant to sell their top players to their rivals in recent years, and it is unclear whether they would be open to selling Mount to Liverpool, Arsenal, or Tottenham.
If Liverpool were to sign Mount, it would undoubtedly be a major coup for the club. The Reds have been lacking a creative spark in midfield this season, and Mount’s ability to create chances and dictate play would be a valuable addition to the team.
And as earlier mentioned, Mount’s energy and work rate off the ball would also fit in perfectly with Liverpool’s high-pressing style of play. Nevertheless, if Liverpool were to make a substantial offer for Mount, it would be interesting to see whether Chelsea would be willing to consider it.
His contract talks are seemingly headed nowhere and given the fact that he runs out of a deal with the Blues in 2024, this summer is the last big chance Chelsea might get to cash in on the player.
