Liverpool leading the race to sign Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves
According to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are leading the race to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves in the summer window.
A few days ago, it was reported that Wolves are resigned to losing their star midfielder, whose contract at the Molineux expires in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt). The likelihood of signing a new deal there is low.
Along with Liverpool, Barcelona and Manchester United are in the race to sign the Portugal international. But, it seems like the Reds are ahead of the queue.
Neves has been a fantastic servant for Wolves in all these years. He was their star young player in the Championship days, before doing the same since getting promoted to the Premier League in 2018.
The 26-year-old is a versatile player who can play in several positions across the midfield. He is comfortable operating in a double-pivot, as a lone defensive midfielder or in a midfield three.
The former Porto player has an exquisite passing range, is an intense character on the field, works his socks off defensively and is one of the leaders of the game.
With Liverpool hoping to bolster their midfield department in the summer, Neves could become a key addition to the squad.
The 26-year-old can not only offer great variety and quality, but great experience and leadership skills that are required in the engine room of the team.
It is believed that he would cost around £50m in the summer. At that price, signing Neves would be a good business from Liverpool.
