Dortmund planning to keep Liverpool target Jude Bellingham with a pay hike and a release clause
According to German outlet Bild (h/t Daily Mail), Borussia Dortmund are conjuring up a plan to keep Liverpool’s prime target Jude Bellingham with the help of a pay hike.
The German side will offer a 150% pay hike to the England international but will include a release clause of £131m in his contract.
Bellingham is not only targeted by Liverpool though. The 19-year-old has had concrete interest from Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Although it is understandable as to what Dortmund are trying to do by planning to offer him a huge pay rise, it reeks of desperation as well.
It kind of shows that they are resigned to losing him in the summer unless something extraordinary is done.
Will the player get attracted by the money though? If he does, there are the likes of Madrid and City who can offer him the money only Dortmund can dream of.
With what we know about Bellingham, it seems like he would decide his future based on the project and the manager he wants to work with.
Is he happy to continue working with Edin Terzic at Dortmund? Or is he attracted by the prospect of rubbing shoulders with Jurgen Klopp at Anfield?
All that will be answered soon as we are just over two months away from the end of this season. We can expect the player’s decision to come out as soon as the season is over (or we hope so).

After all this tracking and working behind the scenes to get the deal, Liverpool must do the last part well and sign Bellingham in the summer. While he would be just one addition to the squad that needs four to five new faces, his impact on the team would be immense.
