Evening Standard reports that Erling Haaland was not seen in the Manchester City training and remains a major doubt for the Liverpool game on Saturday.
The Norwegian superstar pulled out
from the national team for the two games in the international break due to a groin issue. He was frustrated with the problem as well.We might have thought it was a precautionary move taken by City to not send him for internationals so that he heals in time for the final stretch of the season.
But, it looks like the former Borussia Dortmund marksman is in serious doubt about facing Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at the Etihad on Saturday’s lunch-time kick-off.
While we do not get overjoyed by an opposition player getting injured, this should come as a boost for the Reds.
Haaland has been in terrific form, having already scored 42 goals and is odds on to go past 50 with ease.
His potential absence from this big game would put some spring back into Liverpool’s legs. Remember that as much as this is a massive game for Pep Guardiola, Klopp needs to get something out of it if the top four candle needs lighting come May.
While there is a Haaland absence brewing up, Liverpool welcome Darwin Nunez back in training after he missed the Uruguay games due to a cut on the ankle. Luis Diaz is back in full training as well after five months out.
The only issue is that Thiago Alcantara remains out of action to join Stefan Bajcetic among the midfielders who would miss this game.
Irrespective of the availability, we expect a great game against two teams that have fought tooth and nail for the title in the last five years. Although Liverpool have fallen off, you cannot take them lightly in a one-off game.
