Jurgen Klopp “positive” about Liverpool FC’s summer rebuild

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is “positive” about the talks held during the international break about the possible signings to be made in the summer.

After meekly bowing out to Real Madrid in the Champions League more than two weeks ago, the Reds had an extended break because they had an FA Cup weekend off due to their non-participation.

Although talks about potential transfers may not have started during this break, this is a crunch time of the season when clubs usually focus on doing their final checks on players they want to sign in the summer.

Here’s what Klopp said on this topic (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“It’s actually the only thing [player deals] that we do during the international break, apart from having a few days off.

“It was good [discussions]. On the player side, it was positive, I would say.

“But it’s talks, not decisions. But we are busy, you can imagine.”

We can take a guess that the club with Klopp held talks about who to appoint as the next sporting director as Julian Ward is leaving at the end of this season.

With our chances of playing Champions League football next season bleak at the moment, they might have also approached potential player deal talks with that in mind.

The glaring issue in the squad is the midfield department. That area needs sorting with quality signings irrespective of Champions League football.

If we are serious about getting back to the best next season, it would be great if the club musters enough cash for Klopp to sign a young centre-back to replace the potentially leaving Joel Matip.

Liverpool fans must be delighted by the tone and words Klopp uttered on this topic. It shows that there has been some progress in the right direction ahead of a crucial summer both for the club and the manager.
