According to Spanish outlet AS (h/t Metro), Real Madrid have set a price limit of £88m for the transfer of Liverpool target and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.
The report states that while this is a high amount, Premier League clubs could go higher than that. Dortmund may demand something in the region of £105m.
In England, Liverpool will face competition from Manchester City to sign the midfielder. We all know City do not have problems going at any depth to sign a player they want.
This transfer saga just keeps on giving and will continue to do so until the summer. There have been reports that Dortmund will offer a 150% wage hike to Bellingham in his contract with a release clause of £131m.
The money range quoted for this potential transfer is insane, to say the least. But, clubs feel this is an investment for the next decade. Bellingham at 19 could go on at the highest level until 32-33 at the least. Even if he slows down by 29, that’s 10 years from the current day.
Liverpool have had him as their primary target for some time now. It is no secret that Jurgen Klopp
wants to build his next team with Bellingham as one of the key pieces of the jigsaw. If the Englishman is choosing his next destination based on the project and lure of the manager, not many would be better than Klopp and Liverpool despite the struggles of this season.
If money becomes a factor, then City should be favourites. Madrid are making their stance clear very early on that front. As Liverpool fans though, we desperately want him on our side come the summer. Let’s hope that it is the case.
