Report: 41-year-old Englishman not in contention to become Liverpool sporting director

Paul Mitchell is not in contention for the position of Liverpool’s next sporting director

According to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool’s search for a sporting director is ongoing and candidates with past experiences are being considered.

It was claimed that AS Monaco’s Sporting Director Paul Mitchel

l was in the mix for the position, which will be empty after the departure of Julian Ward once the season ends.

However, according to new developments, the 41-year-old Englishman is out of the running for the job and other candidates are being looked at.

Ward joined Liverpool as the sporting director following the departure of Micheal Edwards but failed to create a similar impact as his predecessor.

However, his decision to depart from the position surprised everyone as it was expected of him to take some time to settle into the new environment.

Nevertheless, football is a fast business and not much recourse is paid for the loss of personnel. Instead, more emphasis is being laid to find a replacement with the end of the season closing in.

It has been a disappointing season for us so far with the team being out of all cup competitions and the only thing left to fight for is a top-four finish.

We must finish in the top four and secure UEFA Champions League qualification as a lot of our potential targets will be dependent on that.

It could possibly make or break our upcoming season and similarly, importance needs to be given to finding a new sporting director as soon as possible.

More Liverpool News:

With Jurgen Klopp busy in preparing for a good finish to the season, we need a senior head to handle the talks for potential summer recruitments. Hopefully, the club is able to find an able replacement before the transfer window opens up.
