Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson shares verdict on Manchester City loss
Liverpool suffered a 4-1 loss to Manchester City away from home on April 1, leaving them in eighth place on the table with only nine games left in the season. The first half was evenly matched, but City came out strong in the second half and Liverpool couldn’t keep up and that is what skipper Jordan Henderson spoke about as well.
Hendo, who returned to the starting lineup, admitted that the team didn’t defend well enough and the game ran away from them. The Reds obviously stood disappointed with their performance and have a huge task in front of them to qualify for the UCL.
Despite starting well and having several chances in the first half, Liverpool couldn’t convert them into goals. City also had their chances, but the half ended in a stalemate after Julian Alvarez cancelled out Mohamed Salah’s opener. City’s second goal came in the 46th minute, and Liverpool struggled to get back into the game after that.
Speaking to the club’s official website on what went wrong in the second half, here is what Henderson said:
“[We] didn’t defend it well enough. From then the game sort of ran away from us. In the end we couldn’t get anywhere near City. We’re disappointed [with the] second half and that decided the game.”
Important to move on quickly from this loss
The loss was a bitter pill for Liverpool to swallow, but they must use it as motivation to improve and come back stronger in the remaining games of the season. There is no point in crying over spilt milk, and it is extremely crucial that the Reds move on as quickly as possible from this loss.
