Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp sees future for James Milner at the club

According to the Times (Subscription Required), Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp sees the future of James Milner at the club beyond the coming summer.

Milner, 37, is having his contract at Anfield expire at the end of the season (Transfermarkt). The extension he signed last summer was for a year only.

Despite his age and contract situation, Klopp wants the versatile player to stay at the club. Back in January, the German was open

to having Milner beyond the summer and having plans for giving him a coaching role in the future.

The Independent has reported that the former Manchester City midfielder is working to get his coaching badges and works with the younger players at the Kirkby base.

Given his leadership skills and excellent game management know-how, we won’t be surprised to see Milner becoming a football coach any time soon.

Although it may not be a popular decision amongst Liverpool supporters because they want new midfielders, extending the 37-year-old’s deal by a year on a lower salary with the hope to offer him a coaching role, later on, will not be a bad idea.

The former England international is not a prima donna and won’t demand to be playing every week. He is a great person to have in the dressing room we all know that.

Most importantly, if Klopp wants the player to stay, we should adhere to his demands and give him what he wants.
