Liverpool ready to meet demands of transfer target Mason Mount
Many would have expected Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount to feature against the Reds when Liverpool travelled to Stamford Bridge to play the league fixture against The Blues. However, the fact that the player just came back from an injury saw him as an unused substitute. The player sees himself linked with a move to the Reds, and there is an update to provide on that front.
According to Goal, via the Metro (h/t ECHO), Liverpool are ready to meet the wage demands of the 24-year-old who runs out of contract at Chelsea in 2024 (Transfermarkt), and there have been no talks of a contract extension so far.
Moreover, the said reports also talk about how the Reds have already held a series of positive talks with the player’s entourage over a potential deal in the summer. There seems to be a ‘willingness’ from both sides to arrive at an agreement.
The stalemate at Stamford Bridge would have been enough to show why the Reds need midfield reinforcements. Chelsea were for most parts of the game, the more dominant side. Alisson’s presence in goal combined with the poor finishing from Chelsea’s strikers was probably why the scores were level at the end of the 90.
Midfield reinforcements at Liverpool
The midfield options at Liverpool are extremely limited. Apart from Thiago, who is extremely injury prone, there isn’t much creative output to offer, obviously leaving too much for the wingers and the strikers to do.
In this phase of transition, the Reds certainly need young, creative midfielders who could play a part in the team’s success in the long-term future as well. The Reds, apart from having Jude Bellingham on their radar, obviously have a great chance to get a top player on their squad with the potential incoming of Mount.
The likes of James Milner and Jordan Henderson can go on at this level for another two years at max, and it is extremely important for the management at Liverpool to think with the long-term future of the club in mind.
With the poor form of Fabinho as well, there is no way the Reds should progress into the 2023 Premier League season without getting a number of midfielders on board to either delegate for the starters or give them a strong sense of competition for their place in the starting XI.

While it is imperative that the Reds need to get on board some midfielders, it is important to invest in proven young players as not doing so will entirely miss the point. Mount is a proven player, both in the league and the European level and could prove to be a smart buy for the Reds.
