John Barnes backs Liverpool FC’s decision to drop out of Jude Bellingham race
Former Liverpool great John Barnes spoke out in defence of the Reds’ decision to cool their interest in Jude Bellingham. Barnes believes that Liverpool fans should not stand too upset about the situation and should support the club no matter what.
The Athletic reported very recently that the Reds want to ease off in their chase of Bellingham because they feel that the player costs too much for his age, and the Reds could instead channel that fund towards getting on board multiple players for the cost of one.
The owners came under a lot of scrutiny for this, and there were a lot of people criticising FSG for their ownership of the club for not investing enough into the squad whenever required, and to a great extent, the criticism is something FSG actually deserve.
Here is what he told BonusCodeBets on the Liverpool-Bellingham situation (h/t ECHO):
“Liverpool fans shouldn’t get too upset if Liverpool miss out on Jude. If they’re going to then they shouldn’t support the club. They should support Liverpool no matter what. And want players that only want to come to Liverpool.”
“If Jude Bellingham decides to go somewhere else that’s not a player Liverpool fans should be wanting for the club. The fans shouldn’t put Jude Bellingham ahead of the club. End of story. Fans haven’t got a choice who joins the club and the way football is now there are clubs that have more money to offer than Liverpool do, Liverpool can’t do much about that.”
Time to find alternatives
Despite the disappointment that Liverpool fans may be feeling about missing out on Bellingham, Barnes believes that the club and its owners will make the right calls when it comes to rejuvenating the squad.
Barnes’ words may be difficult for some Liverpool fans to hear, but they offer a reminder of the importance of supporting the club through thick and thin. While it is natural to be disappointed about missing out on a talented player like Bellingham, ultimately the club’s success should be the top priority.
As Liverpool looks to rebuild its squad this summer, there may be more disappointments along the way. However, Barnes’ message is clear: no matter what happens, Liverpool fans should support the club and trust in its owners to make the right decisions.
In a world where money often talks in football, it can be difficult for a club like Liverpool to compete with the financial powerhouses. However, the club’s history and reputation can still attract top talent.
