Liverpool eye Chelsea duo Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher
According to football.london, Liverpool have made Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount their priority transfer target and also eye a move for another one of the Blues’ midfielders in Conor Gallagher. This news comes after the Reds drop out of the race for erstwhile primary target, Jude Bellingham.
The club and Klopp are of the opinion that Mount will seamlessly integrate into the German’s footballing philosophy. They are sure that they can successfully negotiate a deal for the 24-year-old, whose contract with Chelsea expires in slightly over a year via Transfermarkt.
Mount demands pay close to what the highest earners at Chelsea get, and the Reds are apparently ready to match the Englishman’s wage demands. Moreover, the Stamford Bridge outfit want to tie Mount with a seven-year contract, which his representatives do not want.
Speaking of Gallagher, the 23-year-old has a much longer contract than Mount at Chelsea and his deal with the Blues lasts until 2025 (Transfermarkt). Liverpool aims to acquire both Mount and Gallagher for their midfield. Klopp thinks that both players will bring energy to the team’s midfield.
Chelsea duo at the Reds soon?
Phillipe Coutinho left Liverpool back in 2018, joined Barcelona, went to Bayern Munich on loan, went on to win the Champions League with the Bavarian giants, and made a return to the Premier League with Aston Villa as well and Liverpool are yet to replace the player at the club.
The Reds dearly miss a goalscoring midfielder ever since Coutinho’s departure (phew, what a player) and the likes of Mount and Gallagher could certainly change that at the Reds. With the likes of Henderson and Fabinho doing the “dirty work”, Mount and Gallagher could have much more freedom to express themselves on the pitch and get a few goals as well.
The club’s new owner, Todd Boehly, wants to make swift decisions regarding players in the last months of their contracts. If the players don’t agree to extend their contracts, the club is likely to sell them.
Hopefully, the Reds get on board at least one if not both of these players, as they have constantly shown their quality in the Premier League. Gallagher was fantastic on his loan spell at Crystal Palace, and Mount has been fairly consistent for a couple of seasons.

While the club will hope to get all their transfer targets on board, the more important aspect is qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season and getting a strong finish in the league by winning the nine games left in the season.
