Liverpool to talk to Brighton for Alexis Mac Allister and/or Moises Caicedo

Following the disappointing news of Liverpool pulling the plug on any deal for Jude Bellingham, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano spoke on his Youtube channel about the possibility of the Reds talking to Brighton and Hove Albion in the hope to secure either Alexis Mac Allister or Moises Caicedo.

Both players have been on the Reds’ radar for quite a while now and Caicedo, before signing his extension with the Albion was extremely close to joining Liverpool. Mac Allister’s links though have gained traction after he won the World Cup with Argentina in Qatar last year.

In the ‘list’ of transfer targets, Romano also named Mason Mount and Matheus Nunes as players who Liverpool have kept an eye on. While the need for new midfielders at the club is certain, it is good that the Reds have a few backup options in place as the Bellingham deal seems to head south.

Here is what Romano said on his YouTube channel on the prospect of either of the Brighton boys joining the Reds:

“I’m also told that Liverpool are keeping an eye on Brighton. They are doing excellent, they have a top coach, a top board and are doing an excellent job. Players like Mac Allister and Moises Caciedo are two players appreciated by Liverpool. So, in their list there is also the possibility to speak to Brighton for one of their midfielders. So, Liverpool will be busy with midfielders but probably also other positions – centre-back, maybe full-back and something else.”

Brighton’s best to Merseyside?

While there are no new reports on how much Caicedo could cost the Reds, the pursuit of Mac Allister could set back the Reds by £66m as per liverpool.com, and he could truly prove to be worth the price tag if he keeps up the consistency levels on show from him at the moment.

In 29 appearances across all competitions this season, he has ten goals and two assists for the Seagulls. His versatility is something the Reds could benefit hugely from. And as far as Caicedo is concerned, he is much more defensive in his game and plays a role similar to that of Fabinho at Liverpool. The Ecuadorian has 32 appearances across all competitions this season.

The addition of Mac Allister and/ or Caicedo could provide Liverpool with more depth and options in the middle of the park, helping to alleviate the workload on their current crop of midfielders. The transitional phase at the club could see itself eased out to a great extent as well, benefiting Liverpool.

As Liverpool look to bounce back from a disappointing season, adding quality players such as Mac Allister and Caicedo among other transfer targets including the likes of Mount and Nunes could be crucial to their success.

Although it’s not certain that the transfers will occur, getting either Mac Allister or Caicedo could give Liverpool more strength and skill in midfield. This could help them compete better at the top level for a long period of time.
